Employee Experiences

Antonios, Research Engineer
I joined Canon Medical Research Europe (CMRE) after 12 years in academic research in medical image computing. As a company, CMRE shares my passion for using technology, such as image and data analytics, to provide impactful healthcare solutions.
CMRE provides an environment where personal and professional development are encouraged and actively promoted through the provision of (i) a plethora of diverse training courses, (ii) opportunities to pursue personal ideas and interests, and (iii) a framework for developing and nurturing external academic/clinical collaborations. I have personally benefitted from numerous such opportunities, from in-depth training in C++ over 10 weeks to shorter training sessions in good personal and professional practices. I am currently working on a proposal for an internship project on a personal idea for a novel healthcare technology. If successful, this proposal can lead to future research and development projects and potentially a future product release.
Within CMRE, there is an abundant, diverse and ever-growing portfolio of projects, from maintenance and upgrade of legacy products to proof-of-concept and early prototyping of novel state-of-the-art healthcare solutions. In the Image Analysis team, projects are distributed in a way to ensure the team members maintain a high level of motivation and engagement, while keeping up to date with fast paced technological advances.
CMRE is committed in providing a healthy work environment. Several initiatives promoting both physical and mental health are available including: flexible working, healthy snacks, yoga classes and an active social committee organising various social outings throughout the year. I have regularly enjoyed these provisions. However, the largest contribution to maintaining a healthy work/life balance for me and my family has been the flexible working tailored to my needs as a working parent.
CMRE has a constructive and transparent culture. My colleagues, mentors and managers have made me feel welcome since day one, providing a place where my concerns, opinions and ideas can be voiced and respectfully heard. Furthermore, regular team lunches and occasional social events make CMRE a truly fun place to work.

Jenn, Software Engineer
I joined Canon Medical Research Europe in summer 2019 as a Graduate Software Engineer, following my completion of the CodeClan professional software development course. I have a background in Biomedical Sciences and working at Canon Medical gives me the opportunity to use my experience in this area to make a valuable contribution to healthcare technology.
Upon starting at CMRE, I was assigned a mentor on my team, who has been tremendously helpful in getting me up to speed with the code and procedures of working here. The whole team is encouraging and always willing to pair together on problems, or to step back and let me work through things on my own.
I have found my line manager to be very supportive of my development. We have regular one-to-one meetings which allow us to discuss my goals for the future and plan together to build my skills.
I have received training in C++ and Spring framework. My work has given me the opportunity to work with these and many more varied technologies and I have constant opportunities to learn on-the-job. I have also had the opportunity to benefit from CMRE's personal development training, completing courses in emotional intelligence and assertiveness.
CMRE provides many opportunities for training in personal and professional development and has a great focus on providing a healthy work/life balance. This, in addition to the many social and charity events organised by the social committee, has made CMRE a fantastic workplace I would not hesitate to recommend.
